Cooked up a celestial sun-moon mandala and its all done in a single golden amber thread. The outer ring is a row of pointed sun rays, wide triangular flame shapes that alternate slightly in length and lean outward. Inside them sits the main disc split left and right. The left half carries a serene face: closed eye, strong brow, straight nose, gently closed lips. The right half is all crescent moon with star shapes scattered across it, some 4-pointed, some smaller dot clusters. Theres no colour change anywhere because its one thread and all the tonal variation you see comes from stitch direction shifts in the fill.

At 61k stitches on the largest size and a density of 821 per square inch its a genuinely meaty piece to run. The internal line work inside the rays and the face detail all require the tatami fill sections to sit at different angles so theres a lot of register precision baked in. Built in only 4 sizes because below 5.5 inches the internal detail starts to compress and lose legibility. Smallest is 5.5 by 5.68 inches and largest is 8.49 by 8.77 inches, so its sized for cushions, totes and jackets.

Ive had loads of boho-themed orders and this style sells consistently to the crystal-and-candles crowd. A customer messaged me last november after running the 8-inch on a batch of velvet pouches for her market stall and said every one of em sold on the day, which was brilliant to hear.

Works on a huge range of backgrounds since its single-thread. Deep navy, hunter green, charcoal and dusty mauve all make the gold pop. Ivory gives a more traditional feel. Avoid pale backgrounds with a mid-gold thread since the contrast drops. Use a firm cutaway stabiliser and hoop at maximum tension. Run no faster than 650 SPM on the dense fill sections. Pick a quality 40-weight polyester in warm antique gold rather than a bright metallic since metallics shred on 61k stitches. Avoid stretchy fabrics entirely since the density will pull the circular shape out of round. Email me if youre resizing manually and Ill suggest tension settings that help avoid distortion on a rescale.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
