Played with a split-frame format for this one, which is a design structure people use for monogram shirts and personalised gifts. The top half is a bold sunflower, just the upper dome of it, petals fanning left and right in orange satin with a dark brown centre. A clean horizontal orange rule divides the frame. Below the line drops a semicircular bowl filled with a whole little ocean scene: 3 sea turtle silhouettes swimming in different directions, a jellyfish or 2, coral branches on either side in warm tan, a starfish tucked in, and a scatter of cobalt blue dot bubbles filling the negative space.

Four colours total. Orange for the petals and the divider line. Dark for the turtle and jellyfish silhouettes. Cobalt blue for the dot scatter. Tan for the coral branches. Everything in the lower bowl is kept as small flat shapes so theres room in that open middle section to add a name or monogram letter in a separate thread run. Four sizes from 4.5 by 4.3 inches up to 7.5 by 7.16. Stitch count maxes at 34,403, density at 641, which is on the heavier side but the digitising got the underlay right so it stitches stable on the largest hoop.

This kind of split design is popular for personalised kids shirts. A customer sent me a photo last spring of this on bridesmaid robes for a coastal wedding, names stitched right into that open frame space. Worked really well on white terry cloth. And honestly its just as good straight onto a tote or a tumbler wrap if youre not doing the monogram at all.

White, natural or pale blue fabric suits this best, the orange petal colour and those cobalt dots both need a pale ground to show up properly. Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser on jersey or cotton fleece, its worth it on knit fabrics. Slow the machine slightly on the sunflower petal sections where the satin columns are long, you want those columns lying flat and parallel. Add a name in the centre gap using your machines built-in lettering or a separate text design before you unhoop.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Personalised kids beach or summer shirts with a name in the centre gapRun the 6-inch on a white cotton kids tee and add a name into the centre gap using built-in machine lettering, it looks custom-made even without fancy software
  • Bridesmaid or bachelorette robes for a coastal beach weddingStitch on white terry cloth bridesmaid robes and drop each name in the gap for a coastal wedding bridal party set that photographs well
  • Monogram tote bag for a summer holidayPut the medium on a cream cotton tote and skip the monogram for a clean beach bag that works without personalisation too
  • Coastal-themed baby bodysuit or onesieTry the small size on a pale blue baby bodysuit, the turtle silhouettes in the lower bowl give it an ocean nursery feel
  • Personalised tumbler or bottle wrap for a beach dayUse a wrapping frame and stitch onto a tumbler wrap blank for a coastal-themed water bottle gift, add initials in the centre
  • Teacher appreciation tote with name addedPair the 5-inch with a name stitch on a canvas tote for a teacher who loves the ocean, a solid end-of-year gift that takes 20 minutes
  • Summer camp staff uniform shirtsRun a batch on navy or white camp staff shirts with each counselor name set in the centre gap, the four colours read boldly outdoors
  • Ocean-themed birthday party favour bagsStitch the small on drawstring cotton pouches for an ocean-themed birthday party, add a single initial per bag for a fast personalised favour

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
