Heres a vintage surf flash design and the whole composition fits inside the silhouette of an upright surfboard. Top of the board carries a striped sunset, mustard yellow rays fanning out from a small cream sun. Middle and bottom hold a big crashing wave, foamy white tops curling over deep ocean blue water, with a single palm tree leaning in from the right.

Old school tattoo flash energy is what carries it. Heavy black outlines wrap every shape, the foam crests break into chunky droplet bits, the wave water has horizontal line shading and the sun rays come in burnt orange instead of plain yellow. Honestly its the kind of design ive seen on surf-shop window vinyls for years and it lands the same in thread. The palm tree silhouette is just three or four. Fronds, simple, dark green, leaning casual.

Whole piece holds nine sizes from a tiny 3.5-inch chest patch to a full 7.5-inch jacket back panel. Stitch count climbs fast though, 25k on the smallest, 62k on the largest, so this design has alot of fill packed into the ocean blue panel plus those sun rays up top. Last summer one customer ordered the 5x7 for a Hawaii surf school and they came back ordering 8 colours of the file in different fabric runs.

Stitch on light or medium fabric for the cleanest read. Cream cotton, sand canvas, dusty pink jersey or pale denim, the orange sun and deep ocean panel punch genuinely hard. Skip dark fabric for this one because the cream sun and white wave foam will lose all their pop. Hoop tight, no exceptions, the dense wave fill needs firm support otherwise foam edges curl.

Use a firm cutaway stabiliser on woven cotton or jacket canvas. Tearaway works on duck cloth tote bags. I get messages from surf shops and beach merch sellers about exactly this style of vintage flash and the directional satin around the foam is usually where cheap files crack. Run a stitch test on scrap aswell and holler if PES wont open on your machine, ill sort the format out.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
