Male surfer crouched low on a longboard, arms wide for balance, with a wave curling up behind him in big loose brushstroke shapes. The wave is where this design gets interesting, aqua and sky blue at the top edge, then it shifts through orange and deep red-orange, like theres a sunset caught inside the water. Its not a realistic ocean and its not a cartoon either, its somewhere in that graphic art poster space that looks genuinely cool stitched out. Warm brown skin tones on the surfer, a red-orange longboard underneath, and black outlines holding everything together. Twelve colours total and a density of 2030, which is high, plan for this to take time on larger sizes.

Slip cutaway under it on bags and jackets, full stop. The satin fill areas in the wave are directional and dense, and they need a stable base or youll get puckering around the wave edges. Hoop tightly, use a sharp 75/11 needle, and go slow on the wave body where the colour layers are thickest. Stitch it on a flax linen tote bag at the 4.5 inch wide size for a beach bag that actually looks good. Pop the larger 5-in run on a jacket back panel and it genuinely reads like a surf brand logo. I got an order last summer for a batch of personalised beach bags, the customer wanted something thatd look like it came from an actual surf shop, and this one delivered.

Nine sizes, width ranging from 2.42 to 5.19 inches wide, 9 hoops from 3.5 inch to 7.5 tall. Stitch count runs 30,332 from 3.5 inch on the small side to 79,014 at the largest, so thread your bobbins generously. Eleven colour changes in the sequence, keep your thread order sorted before you start.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Canvas beach tote bags or mesh bags for summer gearA wide canvas tote front panel is the most natural home for this design, the brushstroke wave fills it well.
  • Denim jacket backs or sleeves for surf and skate styleJacket back placement at the larger sizes turns a plain denim into something you'd stop to look at.
  • Gym bags or sports bags for water sports enthusiastsGym bags for swimmers, paddlers, and surfers are an easy match, its clearly their aesthetic.
  • Caps and hats for a surf shop or beach brandSurf shop branded caps with this on the front panel have real commercial appeal.
  • Pillow covers for a coastal bedroom or beach houseCoastal bedroom cushion covers are a popular home decor use, especially at the wider sizes.
  • Kids beach towels or hooded towels for surf familiesHooded towel corner or border placement at medium size is a practical beach project.
  • Iron-on patches for surf gear bags or wetsuitsCut around the wave outline on stable canvas for a shaped patch with a lot of visual impact.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
