Bold block letters spelling dad stacked above papa, and the gaps between the letters arent just empty space. Thats where the tools live. A hammer drops into the D. Pliers hang in the first A. A wrench curves through the second D. Same thing with the papa row below. Its all one colour, solid black, no thread swaps needed. Just load up and stitch. 1 colour, 0 colour changes, four sizes from a 7x3.66 inch all the way up to a wide 10x5.22 inch version for big backs and aprons.

Because its single colour the density keeps sensible at 400 and stitch counts land between 13,110 on the smallest and 20,877 on the big 10-inch. Proper solid fills so you do need good stabiliser underneath. I been running it on tearaway on woven denim and twill without problems, but go cutaway on stretch fleece or polo knit because those tool silhouettes have sharp internal corners that can pull on stretchy ground.

My mechanic customers buy it alot. Ping me if you want to know what thread colour I'd pick, but honestly black on a grey or cream linen looks the sharpest. One customer who runs a small engine repair shop ordered 3 dozen on shop aprons for his whole crew last June, he said it was the first time they actually wore the aprons he bought em.

Hoop firmly. The tall vertical format, 7 to 10 inches height, means any hoop wobble shows up in the letter edges. Slow the machine down for the internal tool shapes, the pliers and wrench bits have tight corner stitching and the digitising software put proper underlay in there but your bobbin tension matters. Skip patterned fabric here, its a single-colour design so it needs a clean contrasting ground to read right. Pair black thread with white, cream, grey or natural linen for max pop. Drop me a note if those tool cutouts stitch fuzzy on your machine and Ill check the underlay settings.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Mechanic dad workshop or shop apronStitch the 10-inch on a heavy canvas shop apron for the mechanic dad who actually works in his garage every weekend.
  • Fathers day black cotton tee shirtRun the 7-inch on a white or cream cotton tee for a fathers day gift that skips the sappy stuff entirely.
  • Canvas tote for a tool-loving papaPop the smaller 7-inch on a grey canvas tote and fill it with workshop bits for a practical papa gift bag.
  • Denim jacket back panel for dadEmbroider the big version across a denim jacket back panel for a bold custom piece that looks like it belongs on a custom bike.
  • Structured baseball cap with patchUse the 3.66-inch tall version on a structured cap panel, it fits the crown without reaching the brim.
  • Linen cushion for a man cave or garageStitch the 9-inch on a stone linen cushion cover and stick it on the garage couch where papa actually sits.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
