My neighbour Sarah came to me last spring wanting something for a retirement gift for her colleague who was finally taking that cruise shed been putting off for twenty years. She wanted it stitched onto a canvas toiletry bag and honestly I wasnt sure how it would land but the recipient cried. That kind of response is why I keep making designs like this one. Its a coral red hardshell roller case, the kind with the telescoping silver handle locked into position, and sitting right over the top corner theres a wide-brimmed teal sun hat with a hot pink band. Simple idea, instantly readable, and the whole thing reads "Im going somewhere warm" without needing a word.

The tatami fill across the suitcase body is dense and smooth, I used directional stitching so the surface catches light differently depending on how your hoop sits. The hat brim uses satin with a slight underlay to keep it from sinking into the fabric, and the dark outline work gives you that clean edge you want on smaller placements. Stitch it on a 4.5 inch setting on denim or canvas and you get a really solid result. On lighter cotton or linen you'll need a cutaway stabiliser underneath, not tearaway, because the density here sits around 870 stitches per square centimetre and tearaway just wont hold it flat long term.

Hoop it centered on a front zip pocket for the strongest placement. Pop it on twill or canvas tote bags and the coral really pops. Try it on a linen pouch for a softer holiday feel. Use the larger 7.5 inch version on a fleece blanket for carry-on gifting and it genuinely looks like a boutique item. Cut your jump stitches clean between the hat and the handle area or they'll show through sheer topping if you're doing a finishing layer. Skip satin on polyester luggage tag fabric, the bobbin tension goes funny, cotton or canvas only.

Reach out if the design pulls in at the waist.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Canvas toiletry bagRuns clean across the front face of a canvas toiletry bag, the 4.5 inch sits perfectly above the zip.
  • Denim tote bagHonestly my favourite spot for this one is a denim tote, the coral against dark indigo is really something.
  • Zip travel pouchStitch the 3.5 inch version onto a zip pouch front and it still has all the detail because the outline work holds.
  • Linen luggage tagLinen luggage tags need a firm cutaway behind them but the result looks like something from a travel boutique.
  • Cotton t-shirt frontCentre it on a cotton tee chest using a medium tearaway, cool iron after for best satin recovery.
  • Fleece carry-on blanketThe 7.5 inch on a fleece blanket is a solid retirement or bon voyage gift, thicker bobbin thread helps.
  • Terry towel borderApplique the hat section separately on a terry towel border if you want the colour to really punch through the pile.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
