I spent a actually long time sorting out the horizon gradient on this one to work properly in thread. Thirteen colours, and about half of em are just doing the job of the sky, layering satin runs from the pale horizon tone up through the warm peachy top. At 7.5 inches wide youre looking at 45,298 stitches, which is gonna be a 15-20 minute stitch-out on a standard home machine. The density is 125, one of the higher ones in my catalogue, so I always digitise these landscape pieces with a robust underlay to keep everything flat.

Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser for this one, kinda non-negotiable when you get into five-digit stitch territory on knit or woven fabric alike. Pair it with 40wt thread for the upper colour bands, the finer thread lets the gradations blend a lil better than 30wt would. I had a customer send me a photo back in february of this stitched on a white linen beach tote, and the colour layering on the palm fronds looked genuinely impressive. The fronds themselves use a directional satin technique where each section runs at its natural angle, kinda following the curve of the leaf.

The digitising process for this took about 3 days in industry-grade software because making the horizon line look natural means the bobbin thread cant be visible between the ocean and sky colour bands, I redid that seam twice. Stitch the ocean sections at a consistent speed to keep the horizontal satin bands from showing gaps. Avoid using a topping film on smooth woven linen, it leaves a residue on the tight satin weave that's fiddly to remove. Send a chat note if you want to swap a colour before you stitch out, Im happy to advise on thread substitutions if your brand doesnt carry those exact shades.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Beach tote bag front panelNatural linen tote centred panel; the sunset gradient reads beautifully on neutral backgrounds where the warm tones arent competing.
  • Summer shirt back yoke placementCotton shirt back yoke for a summer statement; tearaway on the woven fabric, the fronds sit cleanly across the shoulder seam.
  • Vacation memory hoop framed artCream linen in a wide hoop for a coastal wall art piece; the 13 colour build holds detail that rewards looking at it closely.
  • Coastal throw pillow centred designCotton canvas throw pillow for a living room or beach house; density 125 stays flat and the colours stay rich after washing.
  • Swimming bag front embroideryCotton drawstring swim bag front for a summer holiday gift; the compact frond detail stitches cleanly at the smaller size.
  • Tropical wall hanging linen panelLinen wide-format wall hanging for a tropical or coastal room; worth framing properly at the full size for the colour layering.
  • Holiday dress pocket detailShirt pocket panel in a small hoop on woven shirting; a subtle placement that reads as a holiday detail rather than a statement.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
