A surfer stands upright on a board, arms out, riding the inside of a curling wave. The figure itself is a clean dark navy silhouette and behind it a tall palm tree leans in from the background. Six colours in total: deep navy for the rider, aqua for the main wave body, seafoam for the curl, sandy yellow on the board edge, dark olive on the palm fronds, and white for the spray at the base. The wave curl has directional satin stitching that runs with the motion, so it doesnt just look flat, it actually reads like water moving. Thats the detail that makes it worth doing in thread and not just printing it.

Five sizes from 2 inches wide right up to 6 inches, heights from 1.47 up to 4.4 inches. Stitch range is 4,745 at the tiny end and 19,350 at the full size. Density is 733, which is on the firm side, so use a proper cutaway and skip the tearaway, especially for the larger sizes. Dm me if your machine has a tight hoop and I can check the 2-inch at an adjusted satin angle. my workhorse software handled the underlay so the navy fill on the surfer silhouette sits cleanly even on heavier cotton without sinking. A customer who runs a surf camp had a run stitched on zip-up hoodies last summer and the kids went mad for them, she said parents kept asking if they were from a surf brand. Best results on medium-weight cotton, canvas, or light denim. Ive also seen it done beautifully on a pale sage cotton tote.

Hoop firmly and run a slow needle speed on the dense wave section. Skip anything below 130gsm at the 5-inch-plus sizes. Dont use a tearaway on jersey or anything with stretch in the weave.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Kids surf camp t-shirts and zip hoodiesStitch the 5-in centre on the chest of a kids cotton hoodie, the navy silhouette reads well on white or coral.
  • Board shorts hip panel patches for surf brandsUse a backing board inside shorts before hooping the hip panel to keep the seam from puckering under the fill.
  • Cotton gym bags and sports backpacksWorks on the front pocket flap of a canvas gym bag at the 3-inch size with a medium cutaway backing.
  • Youth surf club polo shirtsClean and professional on white polo fabric at the 3-inch setting for a youth club uniform run.
  • Beach cottage throw pillow coversthe 4-in chest on a linen pillow cover gives a low-key coastal accent that doesnt compete with other decor.
  • Bucket hats and wide-brim sun hatsMount on a structured hat panel before attaching; the directional wave fill holds well on woven hat fabric.
  • Water bottle carry pouches and sunscreen bagsUse the 2-inch version on a small cotton pouch for a coordinated beach kit gift with a drawstring top.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
