This valentine gnome has a noticeably wider, shorter shape than you usually see, more squat than tall. The maximum size is 7.51 inches across but only 5.29 inches high, which is that horizontal format that sits well on sweatshirt fronts without going too far up the chest. LOVE text works into the composition somewhere near the gnome figure, either below or beside it, and the combination is warmer and more folk-art in feeling than the typical cutesy cartoon gnome.
Nine thread colours in this one, which is the most of any gnome design I have: red for the body, white for the fluffy beard and hat pom, cream for the hat base, pink for the heart accent, a warm skin blush, dark trim detail, a warm golden yellow, rose pink highlights, and charcoal for the outline. Density sits at 1052, thats genuinely high density, so the stitches pack tightly and the whole design has that solid embroidered look rather than a thin fill. Stitch count goes from 16,739 at 3.51 inches wide up to 41,798 at full size. Run this on a full cutaway stabiliser, dont try tearaway on this density, youll end up with puckering at the seam areas.
Last winter I ran the 5-inch version for a customer who wanted it on a canvas wreath centre, she wrapped the hooped canvas in a grapevine wreath after stitching and said it looked like something from a market stall. Nine colours means 9 bobbin checks too so make sure youre threaded correctly and the colour changes are following the right sequence.
Five sizes from 3.51 up to 7.51 inches wide. Hoop snug and use a medium-weight woven cutaway for best results. Love the wider format if you want a centred chest design that stays balanced on adult sweatshirts and linen panels.
