This gnome has a lot going on in a good way. The hat is tall and pointed in blush pink, covered in tiny scattered red hearts and trimmed in crimson at the base. To its left a large heart-shaped balloon in soft pink floats up on a thin string, and across the balloon face in red cursive it says 'For You'. The combination of hat hearts and balloon hearts gives the design two visual focal points that work together.
Below the hat the beard is the standout technical element: long layered grey satin fills with directional angles that make each layer look distinct, not just a flat column. An aqua collar sits at the top of the beard section, and pink swirl shoes peek out at the very bottom. Theres even a tiny black scissors accessory detail tucked in, small enough that you only notice it if you look closely. Ten thread colours total in this design, quite a few stops.
At 904 density on those layered fills, the hooping needs to be solid. Use a heavy cutaway stabiliser and dont rush the hooping setup. Skip lightweight fabrics like thin jersey since the stitch density will pull and pucker. This is not a quick stitch, the largest size at 7.48x7.51 inches runs 50,765 stitches. A customer last spring ordered this on a set of throw pillows for a Valentine market booth and said it took about 40 minutes each at the large size. Stitch on sweatshirt fleece or structured canvas for best results, the detail in the beard layers reads clearest on stable fabric.
