This bumblebee is one of the more complex insect designs I've made. Its rendered at a slight angle, like its mid-flight and just banked toward you, and the wings are the first thing people notice. Each wing cell is outlined individually so the veining reads like stained glass, with translucent-looking fill between the lines. The body combines orange, teal-green, and gold banding on the abdomen with a dark furry thorax section, and the black outline work throughout gives it that dimensional, almost sculptural look.

The ink splatter elements around the outside are what make it feel modern rather than just a nature illustration. Loose wisps in teal, coral pink, pale blue, and orange spread outward from the bee like someone dropped watercolour around it. Its an effect thats become popular in art prints and tattoo flash, and it translates well into thread because each splash zone is its own colour stop rather than a blended gradient.

5 sizes from 3.19 inches up to 6.81 inches, stitch counts 21,091 to 53,650 stitches. Hoop with a cutaway stabiliser on anything structured, canvas, denim, thick fleece. On lighter fabrics like quilting cotton or a tote, use a medium cutaway and a topping layer so the wing detail doesnt sink into the weave. Keep your thread tension consistent, the 14 color changes mean 13 stops and if your tension drifts mid-run you'll see it in the wing cells first. Skip tear-away entirely on the bigger files, its not going to hold through 53,000 stitches.

I've sold a bunch of these lately, mostly to customers making nature-themed gift sets and tote bags with the bigger size stitched straight on. One customer sent me a photo last week of the 6-inch version framed under glass on a white linen backing and it genuinely looked like a mixed-media print you'd buy in a gallery. Use the smaller 3.5-in design on a jacket lapel or the front pocket of a canvas bag. Email me if anything in the download needs sorting.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Nature tote bag or canvas market bagThe 6.81-inch size stitched on natural canvas makes a striking centrepiece panel for a tote.
  • Framed textile art for a study or living roomFramed under glass on a cream linen backing, the ink-splash elements look like mixed-media art.
  • Denim jacket back or chest patchA 4-5-in across the denim chest panel reads bold without overpowering the jacket.
  • Quilted wall hanging with botanical themeOn a quilted hanging, the banding colors pick up coordinating fabric prints around it.
  • Beekeeper gift on an apron or canvas pouchStitched on a sturdy apron bib, its a personalised gift any beekeeper would actually use.
  • Kids backpack patch for a nature loverThe 3.5-inch small size fits a standard backpack front pocket without needing repositioning.
  • Throw pillow on a woven or linen coverOn a woven throw pillow cover the wing-cell detail stays crisp and looks intentional.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
