A rectangular flag is fine but a billowing one has alot more energy to it. This design shows the flag mid-wave, the whole body curving as if its catching a steady breeze. Stripes follow that curve so they arc gently instead of running dead straight across, and the blue canton stays anchored at the top left the way it would on a real flagpole.

Three colours, navy for the star canton, red and white splitting the curved stripes. Stitch count goes 10,430 at 3 inches up to 31,634 at the 7 inch size. Five sizes total. The bigger sizes give the wave shape room to read properly, the 3 inch version is compact but the billow still comes through.

And customers who do lapel-area shirt placements specifically ask for this one because the curve draws the eye. I get messages every june from buyers wanting custom uniform shirts where the flag looks like its actually moving. A customer who does fire department appreciation shirts told me last year she switched to this design and her clients noticed the difference straight away.

Stitch it on a plain cotton or linen, white and cream are the obvious picks. Dont try it on a heavy ribbed knit, those arcing lines need a stable base to sit right.

Cutaway stabiliser under the whole piece. Keep the hoop tension even. The canton needs clean underlay or those tiny star fills can sink into the navy at small sizes.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Patriotic uniform shirt accentsA 4 inch version on the left chest of a plain white uniform shirt gives a professional and lively patriotic placement.
  • 4th of July family matching teesMatching family shirts with this on the chest all in a row read great in holiday group photos.
  • Custom memorial day apparelOn a mid-weight cotton shirt for a memorial day event the wave shape adds motion that a flat flag doesnt have.
  • Patriotic cap front panelsthe 3-inch run on a structured hat front panel fits cleanly without going to the brim edge.
  • Lapel-area shirt placementPlaced on the left upper chest area of a polo it sits right where a small flag pin would normally go.
  • Patriotic canvas tote bagsOn a navy canvas tote the flag pops against the dark background and the wave shape makes it look custom.
  • Outdoor furniture cushion coversStitched on a canvas or duck cotton outdoor cushion cover it works as a durable patriotic garden decor piece.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
