Worked this one up as a pure typography piece and it came out exactly how I wanted. The word 'welcome' sits at the top in a flowing cursive script, thin black thread with an easy hand-lettered swing to it. Below that, SUMMER stacks five times in chunky retro block capitals, each row sitting snug on the one beneath it, running a colour gradient from warm gold at the top down through orange, tomato red, navy, and a bright cyan at the base. Its like one of those seventies concert posters where the same word just keeps repeating.

Six colours total and the stitch count goes up to 32,253 on the largest at 6.45 by 7 inches, so it isnt a light quick stitch. Density is well balanced at 714 stitches per square inch and my professional tool handles the lettering fills properly so theres no puckering around tight curves. Each SUMMER row stitches as a separate colour block which makes thread changes simple to track.

Smallest is 2.77 by 3 inches, largest is 6.45 by 7, five sizes in between. A customer who runs a beachside gift stall put the large version on natural canvas totes last summer and said they'd sold the whole batch before lunchtime on opening weekend. That told me the colour combo was right.

Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser for knit fabrics and a tearaway under firm woven cotton. Light backgrounds work best so all six colour rows pop. Try white canvas, cream linen, pale chambray or a natural cotton twill. Dark navy or charcoal will swallow the navy row in the stack so it's better to stick to mid-tones or lighter.

Run a test swatch and check each colour change lines up flush with the row above. If your machine trims between colour changes, tighten your jump settings so loose threads dont pull the letterforms apart. Five sizes means you can scale it from a shirt pocket badge right up to a full beach bag face.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Canvas tote bags for summer market stallsStitch the large 6-inch on a kraft shopper bag for beach markets, the retro colour stack photographs well against sand
  • Kids beach towel corner monogramPlace the small 3-inch on a white beach towel corner so the design peeks out when folded on a sunlounger
  • Sun hat band embroidery for summer eventsUse the medium size on a wide woven sun hat band, running the stack so SUMMER reads across the front brim
  • Denim shorts back pocket patchEmbroider the compact version on a denim back pocket, the gradient reads as a fun detail against indigo fabric
  • Cotton tee chest placement for festivalsCentre the 5-inch on a white cotton tee chest for a festival vendor shirt with that retro poster look
  • Linen cushion for outdoor patio furniturePut the large size on a cream outdoor linen cushion, the bold block letters read well at a distance on patio furniture
  • Pool bag fabric panelStitch onto a canvas drawstring bag for kids, the bright cyan at the base shows well against poolside colours
  • Summer camp gear personalisationPersonalise summer camp gear like a tote or duffle with the small version so it stands out in the lost-and-found pile

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
