Its a portrait-style piece, the cowgirl and the horse fill the frame together, her wide-brim hat sitting just above where the horse's head comes in from the left side. Her hair is long and wavy, falling past her shoulders, and the rendering style is that dense crosshatch-and-satin approach where grey tones do the shading work instead of colour. Two thread colours only: grey for the mid-tones and fur areas, black for the outlines and the deep shadow passes. The whole thing reads more like a pencil sketch than a standard filled embroidery, which is honestly why I think it works so well.

67,149 stitches at the 7.51-inch tall size, density at 1,298. Thats genuinely high, my main software is what I used for the grey-to-black shading, mapping it as overlapping directional satin passes so the tonal gradation reads continuous rather than banded. The horse fur, the hat brim texture, the hair volume, all of it comes from that layering. 60 trims in the smallest size, 71 in the largest, which tells you how many detail sections get their own independent path.

Best on fabric with some visual texture already, natural canvas, kraft-coloured drill cloth, raw denim. A customer wanted this on a light canvas tote last week and said the grey sitting on natural background had an almost vintage quality to it. The small 3.51-inch size is a good go-to for cap fronts or jacket chest pockets if ya dont want the full portrait scale. Heavy cutaway stabiliser is non-negotiable at the larger sizes; the stitch density will tear through tearaway on the first pass.

Avoid light pastel or white fabric unless you want a very stark graphical look. Natural mid-tone backgrounds let the grey sit as a true middle value rather than coming across as the lightest tone in the design. Run the bobbin at normal tension, the overlapping satin density means a tight bobbin will pull the top thread through and youll see it on the front.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Canvas tote bags and market bagsNatural canvas totes show the grey-to-black tonal range beautifully, the pencil-sketch quality reads well at arm's length
  • Denim jacket chest or back panelsDenim jacket chest placement at the 3.51-inch size is clean and understated; the back yoke takes the full 7.51-inch tall version
  • Structured cap frontsStructured snap-back or dad-cap fronts work well with the smaller hoop sizes, use foam backing for stability at high density
  • Western-style shirt yoke panelsWestern shirt yoke panels in raw cotton or chambray, the portrait style suits the scale of that placement naturally
  • Wall hoop art for western or ranch decorStretched over a 8-inch wooden hoop and hung on a wall this reads as decor art for a ranch or western-theme room
  • Leather or faux-leather patch panelsFaux-leather patch panels with a heat-transfer backing make a wearable badge version of the portrait
  • Gym bags and canvas duffel sidesCanvas duffel or gym bag side panels, the two-tone design holds detail through heavy use and repeated washing

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
