Made this whale design early this january and it kinda took off faster than I expected for ocean and beach-themed orders. A chubby round cartoon whale mid-breach, six colours, splash droplets fanning out around it. Sky blue for the body, deeper navy for shadow and fins, white belly and droplets, pale turquoise water line, coral pink accent, dark navy outlines. Stitch count is 12,136 at 3.51 inches and 30,425 at the full 7.51 inch size, density at 584 which keeps the large whale body fill nice and smooth without getting too stiff.

Terry cloth and cotton jersey are genuinely popular substrates for kids ocean designs like this one. Customising on a beach towel needs a water-soluble topping over the terry loops, without it the needle catches the loops and the fill areas wont lay flat. On jersey tee fabric, use a firm cutaway stabiliser and reduce your machine speed a bit because the stretch in the fabric can pull the whale body out of round if you rush the run. The tail curve uses a satin column stitch, get that bobbin tension balanced or the tail edges pucker. Pop this on anything beach-adjacent and itll work straight away. Stitch the 5 inch feature on kids swim bag and thats the whole ocean nursery gift sorted in one go.

One customer did a set of 6 kids beach towels with this whale on them and said the 6 inch size looked perfect centred on the towel face, the coral accent really popped against white terry. She said her daughter wouldnt let her wash them too often because she was worried about the colours fading. Five sizes from 3.51 to 7.51 inches wide. The small 3.51 inch version fits a toddler bib or a swim bag pocket with room to spare.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Kids beach towel centre motifCentre a 6-in chest on a beach towel, water-soluble topping prevents terry loops from catching needle.
  • Toddler bib embroideryThe 3.51 inch version fits a standard bib front, use firm cutaway stabiliser on absorbent cotton.
  • Baby swimsuit bag or wet bagStitch the chest 4 in on a wet bag exterior, cutaway stabiliser holds well on water-resistant fabric.
  • Ocean themed nursery cushionUse the 7.51 inch version on a nursery cushion cover, bright colours read well against white cotton.
  • Kids t-shirt chest embroideryCentre the 5 inch detail on kids cotton tee chest, cutaway stabiliser prevents jersey from stretching.
  • Beach hat front panelThe 4 inch version fits a beach hat front panel, topping film keeps fill flat on structured cap fabric.
  • Coastal home decor hoop displayHoop at 6 inches with cotton muslin backing and frame in an 8-inch hoop for coastal wall display.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
