The flukes take up most of the width and the waves sit underneath like a lil splash kicked up on the way down. Its a wide horizontal design, running 3.5 inches at the smallest and stretching to 7.5 inches at the largest, but only 1.49 to 3.2 inches tall so it fits on a chest pocket without eating the whole shirt front. The slate tail has a directional satin fill that runs tip to tip, which gives the flukes that smooth curved look rather than a blocky fill.

Navy tee fabric is honestly the best base for this one. I tested the 5-inch file onto a mid-weight jersey and the sky blue waves pop well against dark fabric. Dont skip the topping on jersey though, the loops get caught in the knit if you go without. Tearaway stabiliser works fine here since the design sits mostly in satin with low density overall at 291.

A bunch of my customers have put this on beach bags and coastal decor pieces. One customer last summer sent me a photo of this at 7.5 inches across a natural canvas market tote and honestly ya could barely tell it wasnt printed, the satin coverage was that clean. I was pretty suprised by how flat the seam areas stayed given the wider width.

Stitch order goes tail first, then waves, then foam dots last. Use a 75/11 needle on woven canvas and a 90/14 ballpoint on jersey fabric. Skip dark stabiliser on light tees since bleed-through ruins the cream spray colour.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Beach tote bag front panel for a summer market or coastal gift shopUse the 7-in span placed on a 15-inch canvas tote with tearaway stabiliser and natural thread colours
  • Navy crew neck tee chest design for ocean lovers and whale watchersThe 5-inch chest version on a navy tee needs topping on jersey knit to stop the satin loops sinking into the fabric
  • Nautical cushion cover for a coastal living room or beach houseStitch the 6-inch size placed on a 20-inch linen cushion front with a slim cream border around it
  • Baby romper or onesie for a marine-themed nurserythe chest 3.5 in on a baby romper needs a soft cutaway stabiliser cut to size under the hooping area
  • Canvas pencil case for a marine biology studentThe 4-inch size fits across a canvas pencil case front panel with room for a name below if needed
  • Denim jacket back yoke accent for a casual ocean-themed lookUse the 7-in feature centred on the back yoke of a denim jacket with a single layer of tearaway
  • Linen table runner for a seaside dinner partyStitch two 5-inch repeats spaced evenly along a linen table runner with matching sky blue thread
  • Baseball cap embroidery for a whale watching tour companythe chest 3.5 in sits neatly on a 6-panel cap front with a cutaway backing for longevity

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
