The shelf layout is what makes this one different. Most christmas tree designs are tall, this one is wide, it spans the full width of the hoop with the tree in the centre, gift boxes to the left and a horizontal green border that reads like a decorative mantelpiece shelf. Then below the border, three little pendants hang down on thin run-stitch threads: two openwork snowflakes and a small red heart at the very bottom. Its the kind of thing that makes people look twice.
Four colors to deal with: black for the tree outline and curly branches, red for the ornaments and gift bows, forest green for the holly border, and a soft blush pink for the snowflake pendants. The pendants are done in a lighter density so they dont overpower the main design. Smallest size is around 4.5 x 3.3 inches at just over 12,000 stitches, manageable on most mid-size hoops. Lay tearaway behind cotton and fleece, and for anything with stretch, pop firm cutaway underneath so those delicate pendant runs stay in register.
My customer last december stitched this onto a set of natural linen christmas stockings, one per stocking using the 5.5 inch wide size. She sent photos and the pendants hanging off the stocking bottom looked genuinely festive, like they were part of the design on purpose. Smart placement. Its also brilliant on the lower portion of a tree skirt where the wide format follows the hem naturally.
Stitch it on white fleece and the black outline pops hard, or try red fabric for a more dramatic look where that dark thread reads bold against the ground colour. Avoid very textured fabrics at this one, the fine pendant runs need a flat surface to register cleanly. Ping me if youre unsure about hoop size for this horizontal layout on your specific machine.
