Heres the woodpecker trio and its quietly become my favourite winter design in the shop. Three little woodpeckers stand in a row, each one wearing a different cherry red knit beanie hat. Left bird perches on a small log, mid-bird stands on a bare twig sprig, right bird stands on snow with sage stems poking up around its feet.

Bodies are charcoal black on top, white speckled bellies underneath. Peach orange beaks point left to right, cosy and confident. The red beanies all sit at slightly different angles, like the kind of difference a hand-knit pile of hats has when each one is slightly off, which is what makes the trio feel hand-drawn instead of cloned.

Stitching uses a sketch-fill style on the bodies. Light directional pencil-line stitching across the wings and belly so you see thread movement instead of solid fills. The little snow shadow under each bird is a very pale grey sketch, super subtle, just enough to ground the trio. Honestly its alot of charm packed into a small horizontal layout.

I get messages every November about christmas tree skirts and christmas cushion fronts using this design. One customer last december ordered the 3 inch size for a set of 8 christmas stocking name tags and the trio sat across all 8 stockings in a single line, each tag holding one third of the design. Smart use of the layout.

Pop this on cream, white, oatmeal linen or sage cotton. The red knit hats glow on natural fabric. Skip dark bases here, charcoal and navy fight the bird body fill. Skip terry and waffle aswell because the small detail wont read on textured weave.

Stitch count runs 35k on the biggest 7.5 inch size and 17k on smallest 3.5 inch, dense for the small format. Use cutaway stabiliser on knit cushions, tear-away on woven linen. Slow your machine for the red hat satin and the directional belly fill, the trio jumps alot if tension is off. Reach me through whatsapp if any thread snags on jump stitches.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
