Bumble bee season is when this insect design gets its real workout. Black body, golden yellow banding, pale blue abdomen accent, its turned out to be one of my most detailed bug designs. The bee sits over a nature-inspired golden background blob, round and organic like a pollen cloud, and the whole thing reads as a proper illustration, not clip-art. Six little clawed legs, two curled antennae, and then the wings. Fine black vein lines stitched over a white and silver-grey base, each one done individually so they catch the light and look almost see-through. Theres a small blue segment at the lower abdomen too, which I honestly wasnt sure about when I first digitised it but it realy makes the thing pop.

A buyer last spring put this on her farmers market canvas aprons and left a review saying it looked like something off a professional apron brand. Full-size on a cream linen bib apron, and it looked like it belonged on a proper artisan product. That size is alot of stitches, around 43k, so hoop your apron firmly and dont rush the wing sections. For anything smaller, go down to the 3.5 inch size and it fits a onesie chest or a linen pouch without crowding the fabric. Use a cutaway stabiliser either way, the body fill is heavily stitched and tearaway wont hold the underlay cleanly.

Stitch the bee on medium-weight cotton or canvas for best results. The tatami fill on the yellow body sections needs a stable base or the thread tension goes uneven and you lose that striped effect. Skip stretchy jersey for this one unless you back it with a firm cutaway, the satin vein work on the wings will distort otherwise. Pop a piece of water-soluble topping over the wings before you run that section if youre stitching on towelling or any textured surface, it keeps those fine directional lines crisp and stops the thread sinking into the pile.

Colours that work: navy, oatmeal, sage, charcoal and forest green all let the black and yellow read cleanly. White also works but the white wing sections blend a little so go with off-white or cream if you can. That little blue stinger section at the bottom reads best against the darker backgrounds. I wouldnt put this on burgundy or rust, it kinda just muddies the yellow. Pick your background fabric colour before you commit to hooping.

Thread swaps are easy here. Golden yellow is the hero colour so keep that true, but the black can go to charcoal or even a dark navy if you want a softer look. Bobbin tension matters with this much fill, so check it on a test piece first. The wing veins are the trickiest bit of the whole design so slow your machine down for those passes and youll get clean results every time.

Just message me and happy to tweak the colours if they dont suit.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Canvas tote bagA buyer put this on her market apron in cream linen and the golden yellow practically glowed against the fabric.
  • Farmers market apronFull size on a bib apron front it fills the space perfectly, bold enough to catch eyes across a crowded stall.
  • Baby onesieThe 3.5 inch drops onto a white cotton onesie without crowding it, great for spring baby gifts.
  • Denim jacket back panelCentre it on the back of a dark navy denim jacket for a garden-themed custom piece that holds up through washing.
  • Cotton tea towelStitch it on white or oatmeal cotton tea towels for a honey-and-garden kitchen theme.
  • Nursery wall hoopHoop a natural linen circle and hang it in a nursery, works brilliantly with a yellow and white room.
  • Garden hatThe smaller 4 inch sits on the front panel of a wide-brim sun hat, fits without wrapping the brim.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
