The tree shape is clean and triangular, no ornaments, no star on top, just the classic cone built up in horizontal bands of colour. Six colour runs go from red at the tip down through orange, yellow, green, blue to a purple or violet at the base, so it reads as a full spectrum on the tree. Its definitely not a traditional christmas design but thats the whole point. The density is 547 so each colour band has solid coverage without the satin sections looking over-filled. The bands are directional satin stitches running horizontally which gives a nice stripe texture when you look at it from an angle.
Five sizes starting at 2.36 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall, up to 5.06 wide by 7.51 tall at the largest. Stitch counts from 7,880 at the smallest to 20,785 at the top which is a fair amount for the 5-inch size. Thats because the horizontal satin bands at density 547 add up fast across the full tree width. Use a cutaway stabiliser underneath, the wide horizontal directional satin pulls downward on the fabric with each pass and a tear-away wont hold it steady over a long run. Hoop tightly and you'll have no issues with the band edges drifting.
I ran the 4-inch version in this colour sequence on white cotton canvas last december just to see how it read and the rainbow on white background was alot brighter than I expected, genuinely eye-catching on a plain base. A customer who bought it around the same time stitched the 5-inch on a navy tote bag and said it was the piece that got the most questions at a christmas market. Pick a neutral or dark base fabric and let the 6-colour sequence carry all the visual work. Stitch on a medium-weight cotton twill with cutaway stabiliser for clean band edges that stay sharp through washing.
