The phoenix came out well because the color layering is actually ordered correctly. In alot of multi-color bird designs the colors get applied flat, one next to the other, but here the orange goes on first as the base flame layer, the teal and turquoise build on top, and the gold sits over the teal in the mid-feather sections. Stitch it out and the whole bird has a kind of iridescent depth to it, not just flat blocks of color sitting side by side. Ive stitched this at multiple sizes and its impressive every time.
Seven colors: orange-red for the flame tips and head, warm gold for the feather mid-sections, two blues for the body fill and highlight, mint green for a subtle accent, and khaki and dark olive for the long trailing tail feathers. the digitising software digitised it at density 1,414. Dense stitch on each fill area, 96 trims across the run which sounds like alot but each color section's well isolated so youre not hunting for missed trims. Counts range from 30,403 at the smallest to 69,555 at the full 7.51 x 6.55 inch size.
Hoop a firm cutaway under it regardless of fabric. The density's high enough that lighter stabilisers'll let it shift on you. Use a topping on any napped fabric, velvet or fleece especially, the feather detail'll sink into pile otherwise. Stitch the 5 inch and above sizes if you want the directional satin to work properly, thats where the individual stitch rows start to behave like actual plumage. at 7.51 inches it runs clean on a jacket back, fill the whole panel in a way that makes sense for the composition.
I've had customers tell me it's ended up on fantasy themed jackets, gaming hoodies, and one customer told me last winter they put the large size on the back panel of a competition dance costume. Makes complete sense, its built for exactly that kind of wide open space. Youll see what I mean the first time you stitch the full 7.51 inch run.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
