Sketched the butterfly after summer-wedding orders came in for something with both a butterfly and proper botanical detail in the same design. This one has a big central butterfly with layered wing sections built up in purple, magenta and dark magenta thread, and the wings have this kinda stacked panel look where each section catches light a bit differently once its hooped and stitched. And the floral vines coming off both sides arent just filler, theyre full curling spirals with individual leaf shapes that need their own satin passes to sit right.

Nine colours total in this one, 9 colour changes across the sequence. Punched via my main digitising tool, and the wing-panel layering is mapped so the directional fill on each section runs at a different angle, which is what gives the finished piece that dimensional look rather than a flat fill. Stitch range goes from 12,113 at from the small size to 26,603 at 7.51 inches wide, so the detail genuinely holds at each size rather than getting muddy. Add cutaway behind stretchy or knit fabrics, and a topping on anything with texture or pile.

A customer grabbed the 4.51-inch size for a cotton canvas tote last month and said the purple and orange together read a lot more vibrant in person than on screen. Thats usually the case with multi-colour fills where you get that thread sheen working for you. Comes in 5 sizes 3.5-7.5 in wide, so theres a fit for most standard hoop sizes.

Pick a mid-weight woven or a stable cotton twill for best results, something that wont shift under the bobbin tension with 9 colour changes and 64 trims in the sequence. Pair it with a tearaway if youre doing a stiff canvas or denim where the cutaway would show through on a lighter coloured reverse. Skip the topping on smooth weaves and only add it on towelling or fleece where the pile would otherwise push up through the satin sections.

Holler if anything in the file looks off and I'll sort it out for you.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Tote bags and canvas shopping bagsThe 5 to 7 inch sizes centre well on a standard tote bag panel with room either side
  • Denim jacket back panelsDense cutaway backing on denim keeps the 9-colour sequence flat against the stiff weave
  • Throw pillow coversThe vine and butterfly composition fills a 12 to 14 inch pillow front without feeling crowded
  • Cotton quilt blocksWorks as a single statement block in a mixed-motif quilt layout
  • Kids bedroom wall art hoopsSmaller 3.51-inch size sits nicely in a 5-inch hoop for a framed wall piece
  • Sweatshirt chest placementCentre chest on a sweatshirt takes the medium size at around 4 to 5 inches wide
  • Table runner centre motifThe horizontal vine layout runs well along a table runner without needing resizing

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
