So its genuinely over the top and I love it. The puppy is front-facing, body squat and round, one front paw raised up like its waving at you. The defining feature is the ears, they fan out to both sides way wider than the body like two massive fluffy wings. Each ear has a burst of orange and gold fur with dark grey and black tips that stick out like theyre mid-shake. Blue eyes, massive, with white highlights. Mouth open, little pink tongue flopped out. The whole thing reads as pure chaos energy in the best way.
The fur work is the technically impressive part. Im not gonna pretend this is a simple digitise because its not. 13 colours, 11 sizes, and the big size at 9.21 by 10.48 inches hits 134,460 stitches. The ear fur uses long radial satin strokes layered in 3 colour passes so the tips look darker and the base reads warmer. Chest area is a soft white fill with shorter strokes pointing downward. The highlight spots on the eyes are tiny white satin squares placed on top of the iris fill and they make the eyes look dimensional, not flat. Density is 1,393 stitches per square inch so youre looking at a heavy machine session on the biggest sizes.
I get messages about it pretty regularly. My friend stitched it on a hoodie last spring for her dog grooming business and honestly it became her whole brand identity. The puppy just has one of those faces that everyone smiles at and thats hard to digitise without it looking cheap or plastic-y.
Use a medium-heavy cutaway stabiliser, full stop. Dont try tearaway on this design, the density will pull tearaway straight off the hoop on the dense ear sections. Hoop a plain cotton jersey or fleece with the stabiliser, not just float it, actually hoop it firm. Run a water-soluble topping on any knit or brushed fleece so the long fur strokes sit on top of the fabric surface and dont sink into the pile. Stitch slowly through the high-density ear sections.
Best fabrics are smooth cotton jersey, sweatshirt fleece, canvas or felt. All 11 sizes from 4.83 by 5.5 inches up to the jumbo 9.21 by 10.48 give you options from a small chest pocket right up to a full hoodie back panel. The smaller sizes are much less demanding at 58,152 stitches for the smallest, so if youre testing start with a size 1 or 2 run first before jumping to the large format.
