The heron stands on a bare branch, neck pulled back in that signature curved S that birders always recognise. Head up, eye sharp, posture absolutely still. The primary wing feathers on the near side are partly spread, which lets you see the full layering of colour from the steel blue upperwing through the lighter lavender-grey underbelly down to the warm buff streaks on the neck. Long orange beak pointing slightly upward. The legs are a rusty tan going dark at the feet where they grip the branch.
Twelve colours in total, which is genuinely a lot for a bird piece this size, but heron plumage needs it. The feather stitching is directional throughout, individual satin column rows following the actual barb angle on each feather group. The fluffy neck plumes are done in tiny fanned stitches. Wilcom did the underlay work properly so theres no flattening on the chest area. At the biggest 5.46 by 8.5 inch size its 38k stitches. Smallest is 2.89 by 4.5 inches at 17k. 9 sizes.
My favourite use I've seen this on was a coastal bed-and-breakfast that had it stitched onto white linen napkins and guest room pillow cases. A customer sent photos last september and honestly it looked like boutique hotel linens. The heron just suits that quiet elegant setting perfectly.
Works best on white, cream or oatmeal linen, cotton or fine twill. The layered feather colours read best against pale clean backgrounds. Skip heavy canvas for this one, fine linen lets the delicate feather work show. Use a light cutaway or mesh wash-away topping on linen to stop the thread sinking into the weave. Keep machine speed moderate on the fine directional feather rows.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
