She told me she nearly cried when she first saw this design, and that might be a bit dramatic but I do understand it. The chibi tabby cat sits there with those enormous round eyes looking straight at you, red santa hat slightly lopsided, next to a tiny decorated christmas tree, and the expression on its face is just exactly right. Not sad, not excited, just patiently waiting. The brush-script text arching above reads 'Just waiting for Christmas' and it finishes the composition without crowding it.

Tape a piece of tearaway behind your fabric before you hoop it up, the text stitches and the dense fur sections pull in different directions and you dont want puckering. Use a cutaway instead if you're working on anything knit or fleece. 3 sizes in this file: 5.5 inch, 6.5 inch, and 7.5 inch. The smallest starts at 60,000 stitches so all three are on the heavier side. Give yourself a full bobbin for each run, the black outline alone accounts for about 31,000 stitches at the 5.5 inch size. Stitch the text section last, it's the most visible part and you want the machine running smoothly when it gets there.

13 colors: dark forest green for the tree, red and royal blue for the ornaments, 3 brown tones for the tabby stripe markings, warm cream for the face and chest, cornflower blue on the irises, pink for the nose and ear inner, white pompom and hat trim, and dominant black for outlines. The eyes really do pop on this one, its probably whats drawing peoples attention first. Even at the smallest size.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Cat lover Christmas gifts and apparelThe large blue eyes read well on any base color, works on white, grey, and even dark navy.
  • Holiday sweatshirts and fleece pulloversCenter chest placement at the 6.5 or 7.5 inch size fills a sweatshirt front panel perfectly.
  • Kids Christmas t-shirts and topsScale to 5.5 inch for youth sizes, the chibi proportions still look right at the smaller size.
  • Pet themed holiday tote bagsThe vertical composition makes it well suited for a tote bag front panel at the largest size.
  • Christmas stockings for cat ownersStitch on the stocking cuff section, orient the cat facing outward so its visible when hung.
  • Seasonal throw pillow coversThe square composition at 7.5 inches fits a standard 18x18 pillow cover without cropping.
  • Holiday gift pouches and fabric gift bagsIron-on to a pre-made muslin bag for a quick wrapped gift alternative at the holidays.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
