This mermaid girl is a proper lil kawaii character. Shes sitting on the sandy ocean floor, hot pink tail curled underneath, scales done in a tight satin lattice that honestly gives em a 3-dimensional fish-scale feel when stitched on cotton. The hair is the thing that grabs you first though. Big loose aqua curls sweeping out in all directions, rendered with open swirl stitching so its not just a solid blob. Pink hibiscus flower tucked in on one side. Big round rosy cheeks, cartoon lashes over wide eyes.
Shes cradling a tiny pink fish against her chest, which is a cute touch my daughter absolutly loves. Green seaweed columns rise on each side. Seven colours: aqua, hot pink, sandy beige for skin tone, bright green, white, black and a lighter blush pink. On the biggest 7.51-inch size the stitch count hits 44,676. Thats a bunch of thread going through, so dense sections in the tail and hair curls need proper support underneath.
I get orders mostly from mums making birthday tees for their 4 to 8 year old girls. One buyer stitched a matching set on a pillowcase and tote bag for a mermaid-themed sleepover last summer and sent me photos. The tail colours popped hard on white cotton.
Stitch on white or pale aqua cotton jersey for the most colour-accurate result. Use a stabiliser that handles stretch fabric because the big satin fills in the tail can pucker on loose knits. Tearaway works fine for woven twill or canvas. Avoid dark backgrounds because the sandy beige skin tone disappears. Pop the 7.5-inch on a hooded kids towel for a beach gift or use the 3.5-inch on a canvas pencil case for back to school in september.
