My mum stitched this onto a linen tote last november and I think shes made five more since. The idea is simple but it sticks in your head: a Christmas tree shape but built from wispy botanical fronds, like wild carrot or fern leaves, not the usual triangled pine. And then instead of sitting on a little pot or tree stand it sits right on top of a large cat paw print, the big central pad and four smaller toe pads above it. Below everything the words Merry Catmas in a looping casual cursive, the kind of handwritten lettering that looks slightly different on each letter which is charming not sloppy.
Run a layer of medium-weight cutaway under the hoop before you start. Single colour designs like this can catch people out because they assume it'll be quick, and it is faster than a multicolour character piece, but the stitch count still goes up to about thirty two thousand at the largest size so it's not a race. The botanical frond texture is what takes the most thread, the leaves have a dense directional fill that makes them look three-dimensional compared to a flat satin fill. The paw pad outlines are cleaner and smoother.
Four sizes, smallest around 3.5 inches tall and largest at 7.5 inches. The medium size around 5.5 inches is the one I'd use for a sweatshirt or bag, it's big enough to read clearly but doesnt take over the whole piece. Stitch it on any stable base fabric without much fuss. Works on fleece with a topper on top, just make sure the topper is thin enough that the lettering doesnt get buried. Cat owners buy this one constantly in the build up to the holidays.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Cat owner holiday gifts, pouches and tote bagsThe pun lands immediately with cat owners, makes it a reliable gift item at any holiday market.
- Adult sweatshirts and casual pullovers for cat mumsCentered chest on a grey or cream sweatshirt at the 5.5-inch size looks clean and wearable.
- Christmas stockings with a paw print cuff detailSmall size works on a stocking cuff panel without overcrowding the top edge of the stocking.
- Seasonal throw pillow covers in natural linenOn a natural linen pillow cover the botanical tree texture gives it an earthy slightly rustic look.
- Pet-themed craft fair products, ornament panels and cardsStitched onto pre-cut felt circles or squares it makes a nice gift tag or tree ornament base.
- Children's Christmas pyjamas for kids who love catsThe single-color format keeps the fabric flexible so it works on soft children's pyjama fabrics.
- Canvas bags and fabric book covers with a nature feelThe tree shape and paw print read well even when stitched small, good for compact bag designs.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
