This ostrich has a lil bit of everything going for it. Tall, slim, slightly goofy-looking in the best way. The head is small and round at the top with two big dark eyes that have a surprised expression, the neck is long and narrow and covered in these loose radiating lines that suggest feathers without being too dense, and then the whole thing tapers down into a wispy tail section. Its drawn more like a cartoon illustration than a realistic bird portrait.

3 colours: a cyan-teal R51 G204 B204 for the main feather body, a medium grey R117 G117 B117 for the face and shading, and then Black as the outline and eye detail. Only 2 colour changes. Because its 3 colours the stitch counts are low, 4,241 at the 3.50-inch smallest up to 8,234 at the 7.50-inch largest. Density is 324 which is very light. Ya dont need heavy stabiliser for this one, a standard medium cutaway or even a medium tearaway on a stable woven fabric will do it.

The design is actually really narrow. At the smallest size its only 1.58 inches wide, and at the largest only 3.39 inches wide. So the 7.50-inch height is the limiting factor for your hoop, not the width. That makes it useful for sleeve placements, narrow vertical runs, tote bag side panels, and things like pencil cases or bag straps where most designs are too wide to fit. Nine, wait, there are 5 sizes in the file all running in that same narrow portrait proportion.

Its a fun one. Kids love it, adults love it for its lil weird vibe, its the kind of design that makes people ask what it is from across the room. Last week I got a batch of orders from people doing zoo-themed kids birthday gifts and this was the most picked design in the whole range. Pair it with a bright coral or yellow tee for maximum pop. Hoop the fabric snug because the long narrow proportions make any slight shift very obvious on the finished piece. Skip the topping on smooth cotton, you wont need it.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Slim sleeve placement on a kids school jacket or jumperKids jacket sleeves in the 3.50 to 5-inch height range need medium tearaway on a stable knit.
  • Vertical panel on a tote bag side gussetTote bag side gussets are typically 2 to 3 inches wide, well within the design's 1.58 to 3.39-inch width.
  • Centre chest on a childrens wildlife or zoo themed teeZoo-themed cotton tees in white or pale yellow let the teal and grey colour read with full contrast.
  • Pencil case or small pouch front panelSmall pouches at the 3.50-inch smallest size only need a 2-inch hoop width which most machines manage.
  • Narrow vertical repeat on a canvas book bagCanvas book bags in natural cream hessian stitch this up in about 8 minutes at mid-speed.
  • Quirky left-chest badge on an adult casual shirtAdult casual shirts in chambray or linen with the ostrich at 4 to 5 inches tall at left chest.
  • Embroidered bookmark strip on a fabric book coverFabric book covers in linen work with the full 7.50-inch height for a bold single-panel statement.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
