Two cats up on a crescent moon, sitting pressed together with their tails looped around the sides. Youre not getting individual fur detail or big expressions. Its all silhouette, the shapes do the work. The crescent curves under both of them like a little bench and the cats lean into each other at the shoulder. Really simple composition and that simplicity is the whole point.
Four colours give you room to play with the mood. The moon is typically done in a warm gold or buttery yellow, the cat silhouettes in deep navy or charcoal, and then a pale thread for any small accent marks. 5 sizes from 3.5 inches wide 7.5 in across, stitches from 5751 up to 12970. Its honestly a quick machine run given the colour count. Flat fills, moderate density at 310, no complicated underlay. Done.
Ive seen this one used a lot for couple gifts. One customer wrote me last christmas after they did it on matching cream canvas totes for a friend and her partner who are obsessed with their two cats, and she sent photos, genuinely adorable. It also works for anniversary stuff, valentines day, just general cat-lover gifting.
Stitch on a navy or dark teal fabric and keep the cat threads lighter than usual for an inversion that looks really good on an evening bag or dark denim. Try the small 3.5 piece on a shirt cuff or the corner of a fleece blanket. Skip busy patterned fabrics though, the silhouette style needs a clean background or the cats disappear into the noise.
Gold and navy is the classic combo but dont lock yourself in. Try charcoal cats on a dusty blue moon fo something a bit quieter, or white cats on a pale gold moon if youre stitching on a dark background fabric and want the inversion to pop.
