A chicken. Taking a selfie. Arm stretched out, phone up, big eyes looking straight at the screen with a lil pout. I drew it because Im always having a laugh and I thought nothing like it existed as an embroidery design, and its turned out to be one of my best sellers. Twelve colours in there including the blush cheeks and the dark phone screen which makes it read immediately.
The feather detail on the body uses a bunch of satin fill layers to get the fluffy rounded look rather than flat white. The comb and wattle are a good bright red, the beak and feet are warm orange, and the outlining throughout keeps every element crisp. 6 sizes, smallest at 4.51 inches wide, largest at 7.51 inches. Dont be put off by 12 colour changes, they go fast once youre going.
Stitch count goes from 24,684 up to 44,605 for the full size, which is alot for what looks like a simple cartoon. But its the colour count of twelve thats driving that. Each thread swap adds a detail that builds up the whole character, and its worth every change.
I get a steady stream of messages about this one from people doing novelty gifts for chicken keepers, which I love. One customer ordered the full batch of 6 sizes last year for a farm-themed gift shop and said the smaller sizes on cards and pouches outsold everything else.
Use a cutaway stabiliser regardless of fabric weight, the dense cartoon fill needs firm backing. White, cream, navy or black fabric all work well. Pop it centred on a tea towel or tote and let it be the whole conversation.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
