Pulled together a horizontal row of 7 western icons lined up side by side like a little cowgirl parade. And what makes it work is how each icon reads clearly at small sizes too. Far left theres a cluster of tiny horseshoes arranged so they form a heart shape, then a tall cowboy boot with a star detail on the shaft, a wide-brim cowboy hat with a satin band, a giraffe standing straight, a big ribbon bow, a horseshoe U on its own, and a windmill with its spinning blades on the far right. The whole strip sits at 0.81 inches wide by 4.5 inches tall at the smallest, scaling up to 1.53 by 8.5 at the largest, so it runs narrow and vertical like a sleeve or a bag strap banner.
Three colours only: amber gold for the main bodies, a darker brick-red for outlines and shadow details, and a mid-tan for the smaller accent highlights on the boot shaft and hat brim. Density sits at 1097 stitches per square inch, which is on the firmer side for a medium-complexity design, so those tiny satin elements hold their shape cleanly without collapsing. Stitch count goes from 6,768 at the smallest up to 14,270 at the biggest, all digitised in digitising tools so the thread underlay is dialled in properly for that tall narrow footprint.
A customer last autumn ordered alot of these for a custom boot-camp gift batch she was putting together for a leaving party, stitched down the side seam of denim jean legs. She said the giraffe got the most comments, which I did not expect. But thats how it goes with these novelty strips, people always latch onto the weird element. Use a medium-weight cutaway stabiliser and hoop the fabric so the strip hangs straight vertical, otherwise the tall narrow ratio can skew if the grain isnt taut.
Best fabric choices are medium denim, canvas tote cloth, natural cotton drill or a thick woven linen. Avoid knits and stretchy jersey for this one since the tight density and tall aspect ratio really wants a firm woven base to sit flat. Pop it on a bag strap, a boot-cut seam, a cushion border or a western shirt placket and it reads well at any of the 9 sizes. Hit me up if the vertical strip is fighting your hoop setup and Ill suggest the best grain orientation for a clean run.
What people are using this design for
A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.
- Denim jacket sleeve stripe detailRun the 6-inch size down the outer sleeve of a denim jacket so the icon strip acts like a western-themed arm stripe
- Canvas tote bag side panel stripStitch the 7-inch strip along the side panel of a tan canvas tote for a cowgirl-themed market bag that stands out
- Western boot-cut jeans seam accentUse the 8-inch on the outer seam of boot-cut jeans so the windmill and horseshoe sit just above the hem
- Cowgirl party gift bag personalisationEmbroider on kraft paper gift bags using a stabiliser backing and gift them at western-theme birthday or hen-do parties
- Bandana or neckerchief border designStitch the mid-size onto a folded bandana border for a rodeo-ready neckerchief gift set
- Cushion piping or border bandRun the strip along the edge of a cushion cover to create a western-style border band on a country-home sofa throw pillow
- Shirt placket or yoke strip on a western blousePlace the strip down the placket of a western blouse or along the yoke seam for a ready-to-wear country music look

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
