My nephew stitched this one last spring and said it was the most asked-about design he'd put on his tote. The concept is pretty simple, its a whale, but the pectoral fins are replaced with proper butterfly wings. Morpho-style, the blue ones with all the layered vein detail. It shouldnt make sense and yet somehow it really does.
There's 5 shades of blue and aqua in this one, so the color changes are real. Back it with a medium-weight stabiliser on woven fabrics and a cutaway on any stretch fabric. At the larger sizes the wing satin stitches catch the light differently depending on the angle, really nice effect. Use a fresh 75/11 needle and stitch at mid-speed for the wing sections.
Eight sizes go from 3.07 inches wide up to 6.12 inches, so theres plenty of flexibility. Pop it on a tote at 5 inches or try the 4-in motif on a shirt pocket. I'd recommend 4 inches or bigger if the wing detail is the point, which for most people it is.

About the artist
Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site
Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.
That's the joy I work for.
The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
