Its just black. One single colour, and somehow thats the whole point. The design is a close-cropped silhouette of a womans face and what makes it pop are those two rounded afro puffs sitting on either side of the top. Big, full, symmetrical puffs that fan out wide. Below them the face fades to black and then you get these eyes, heavy-lashed and slightly downturned, peeking out underneath the hairline. Thats alot of character packed into 1 colour.

I drew this one specifically because I wanted something that worked on literally any fabric colour. A cream sweatshirt honestly gives it a vintage screen-print energy. White linen looks sharp and editorial. And a sage canvas tote version looks kinda editorial-meets-craft-fair. So the palette flexibility is a real thing here, not just marketing talk.

professional digitising tools digitised the puff outlines with tight directional stitching so the edges stay crisp and dont look fuzzy when you pull the hoop. The eye section uses a satin fill that keeps the lash detail readable even at a 3-in build. I get messages from customers asking if the eyes stitch cleanly on the small sizes and yes, they do. Last december one customer ordered the 7.5 feature for a salon window display hoop and shared the pic. Five sizes total, smallest at 3.5 inches, largest at 7.5 inches.

Stitch on a cutaway stabiliser for anything with stretch or loose weave. Flat woven cotton and canvas you can use a firm tearaway but honestly Id go cutaway anyway because the silhouette has alot of dense black fill, especially in the puff sections where the stitch density peaks around 29k on the big size. Use a topping on terry or fleece if the loops keep catching. Skip textured burlap here, the fine lash detail gets lost.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Natural hair celebration tote bagsStitch the 5.5-inch build on a champagne canvas tote and pair it with a natural-hair-themed shop brand for market stalls.
  • Afrocentric clothing boutique labelsPop the 3 in chest size on a swing tag or fabric label sewn into handmade garments from a locs or braids boutique.
  • Girls bedroom wall hoop artHoop the 7.5-inch in a round 8-inch frame, back it with mustard felt and hang it in a girls natural-hair bedroom.
  • Black-owned salon staff apronsAdd the 4-inch size to a black canvas salon apron pocket so the silhouette sits at the hip on salon staff uniforms.
  • Canvas backpack pocket accentEmbroider on a navy canvas backpack front pocket for a minimalist lil accent that people always ask about.
  • Linen throw pillow coversStitch the large size centred on an oatmeal linen pillow cover for a living room that leans into natural textures.
  • Custom hoodie chest patchRun the 5.5-inch on a sage hoodie chest panel for a clean graphic that doesnt look like a bought-at-the-mall print.
  • Baby shower gift pouchesSew the 3.5-in micro onto a muslin drawstring pouch for a natural hair product gift set last christmas season.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
