Made this one last spring after alot of requests for a fashion portrait that actually had character. Heres what you get: a woman with a gorgeous full afro, face tilted just so, six colour build with deep brown skin tones, warm black hair, a burgundy lip and a mustard yellow neckline pop. Its not a flat silhouette, theres real dimension in the face thanks to the directional satin stitching I used across the cheeks and forehead.

Five sizes run from 3.5 x 2.86 inches all the way up to 7.5 x 6.13 inches, with stitch counts from 18,196 up to 46,965 at the largest. Density sits at 1022, so you need a cutaway stabiliser underneath, dont try this on a flimsy tearaway. The underlay on the afro section is pretty aggressive because of how much surface the hair covers, so the topping needs to lay flat before you start the top stitching or the satin reads uneven. Use a good quality 40-weight thread on the face section and the detail stays clean.

And honestly this one sells alot for me on tote bags and denim jackets, which is where the 5.5 inch size is basically the right call every time. A customer messaged me last month saying she stitched it onto a mustard canvas tote and the colours just locked together perfectly. Run it on a medium-weight woven with a good cutaway and you wont have any registration problems. Pair it with a 75/11 sharp needle if your machine struggles with the denser areas around the hair outline. Stitch at 7.5 inches on denim if you want the face detail to fully show at full resolution.

Holler at me if a format doesnt open on your end, I keep all the source files and can re-export whatever you need.

What people are using this design for

A starting point. The design works for plenty more than just this list, this is what folks have stitched it onto most.

  • Tote bag statement designBest at 5.5 to 6 inches on canvas tote, cutaway stabiliser, the satin edges really pop on flat weave.
  • Denim jacket back patchStitch at 7 inches on a denim back panel, hooped tight with a cutaway to handle the density.
  • Sweatshirt chest logoSits well centred on a sweatshirt at the 5 inch size, 6 colours read clearly on medium-grey fabric.
  • Canvas book bag for teensThe 4.5 inch version fits a standard book bag front pocket perfectly with good registration.
  • Natural hair salon apronApron canvas handles the 46965 stitch count at full size without puckering if hooped properly.
  • Gift for afro-loving friendsPrint onto a tea towel or small canvas pouch as a personal gift at the 3 in micro.
  • T-shirt centre chest designCentre chest placement on a fitted tee at 5 inches, use a topping over knit fabric.
  • Fabric wall art panelBack the fabric with a stiff interfacing and frame it, looks striking as a small textile art piece.

About the artist

Reyazul Masud Riham, hand-drawing every design on this site

Every design on Re Embroidery is hand-digitized by one person. Each file gets sketched, color-matched, and stitch-tested on real fabric before it earns a place in the shop. No team. No auto-conversion from images. Just slow, deliberate work, sometimes three or four days per design.

That's the joy I work for.

The hard part is finding my designs re-uploaded and resold elsewhere. So when you buy from Re Embroidery, you're paying one real person for the file you're about to download. That matters.
